Jill Wakeman, a member of Phoenix Stroke Club, successfully completed this year’s London Marathon on 24 April and is raising money for the stroke club.
Jill suffered a stroke in July 2013 leaving her with no movement in the right-hand side of her body and incapable of saying anything other than ‘no’. On leaving hospital after 10 weeks she was determined to overcome her disabilities and to show others what can be achieved with sheer hard work and enthusiasm. Over time Jill pushed herself to walk short distances and she slowly built up to successfully completing the Brighton Half Marathon last year.
Jill said: ‘I was nervous and excited about taking on this challenge. Successfully completing the London Marathon has been a major milestone for me.’
Judy Clark, Manager of Phoenix Stroke Club commented: ‘We are so proud of Jill. She is an inspiration and we are delighted she is raising money for the Phoenix Club.’
