The Club relies heavily on the services of a group of talented volunteers for its smooth running. The volunteers are responsible to the Manager. Volunteers should be self-motivated and soon be able to work with a minimum of supervision. The Phoenix Stroke Club will check references. If you are interested in applying to take on, as a volunteer helper, one, or more, of the vacancies listed you should contact the Manager to arrange an interview, fill out and email an application form. The Club meets on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday principally during the school term time. An outline of the meeting routine is given on the Tasks page. The "Monday", "Tuesday" and the "Wednesday" meetings are assisted by essentially different groups of volunteers. So a volunteer who wants to help with meetings need as a minimum make a commitment for only one day a week initially. There are many jobs that do not need a weekly commitment, e.g. building maintenance and gardening. Anyone interested in working, on a one-to-one basis, with someone who has communication difficulties arising from a stroke could volunteer to help on a Thursday morning in the Supported Communicaton Group. |
